Visible Difference Aotearoa featured in the latest story from MAS on community and care

MAS has published a feature on Visible Difference Aotearoa, covering our work and the reasoning behind it. The piece follows founder Emily Yassaie, board member Mariann Betham, and the families we support.

It sets out the gap we were established to address. Surgical treatment is funded. The period that follows generally isn't, despite covering things like how to answer questions in public or explain a visible difference to a young child. That's where our guides, resources and community care come in.

The article also includes Mariann's own account, and a mother's experience raising a son with a rare craniofacial condition and finding others who understood it.
